Religious Education Goals

The religion program for the children in our Parish School is designed to give students, according to their age, a general understanding of:

  • major doctrinal facts of the Roman Catholic Church and a vocabulary that allows them to express these;
  • a sound sense and understanding of liturgical worship;
  • a comfortable familiarity with Scripture;
  • a working knowledge and experience of prayer (memorized and spontaneous) and prayerfulness.

The students attend a Mass or prayer service once a week.  Each grade level has a patron saint.

Pre K

Discovering God's Word is an introduction to God's gifts of self, creation, and love with family and the Church community.

Kindergarten

Discovering God’s Love is an introduction to the fullness of God’s love by providing an interpersonal growth experience in love, kindness and sharing.

Grade One  

God Loves Us is a beginning knowledge of God in and through the people of our world.  There is an introduction to he Sacrament of Baptism and Eucharist.

Grade Two  

Jesus Shares God’s Life is an introduction to the Sacraments with a beginning study of the Sacrament of Penance and a deeper study of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

Grade Three  

We Are The Church is a deeper understanding of the person of Jesus and His Family, the Church.  The focus is on the beginning of the Church, the coming of the Holy Spirit and His gifts, along with the concept of community.

Grade Four   

God’s Law Guides Us is an emphasis on developing the child’s sense of Christian morality based on love.  Clarification of relationships with Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Community of Believers are stressed.

Grade Five

We Meet Jesus in the Sacraments is a general review and deepening of the child’s awareness of the sacramental life of the Church, with emphasis on Jesus’ involvement with the community.

Grade Six

We are God’s People is focused on God’s presence and message in today’s world through an understanding of Scripture, specifically the Old Testament.

The Faith and Witness school program helps Catholic students of Junior High age or early adolescence to develop a lasting relationship with Jesus Christ.

Grade Seven 

New Testament-A Course on Jesus Christ and His Disciples  explores Catholic faith through the life of Jesus in the New Testament especially in the Gospels.  There is a thorough review of the fundamental dogmas, traditions, and practices of the Roman Catholic Church.

Grade Eight              

Church History-A Course on the People of God is a more mature, value oriented review and study of Catholic beliefs, doctrine, tradition, and history.  There is a strong emphasis on personal values and the student’s relationship to the Church and to Scriptures.

Sacraments              

The second grade Religion class assists parents in the preparation for the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist. Parents of Students in higher grade levels who have not received the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist should contact the Religious Education Office.
